At approximately 0300 EST, initial reports indicated that an axe and knife attack was underway on Nekrasov Street in Abakan, Russian Federation. A single 33-year-old man was detained as the Russian Investigative Committee reported an investigation was underway.
Authorities have not reported how many victims have been killed or wounded, but two separate eyewitnesses have shown that at least two people were attacked by the axeman.

Abakan is the capital city of Khakassia, Russia, located in the central part of the Minusinsk Depression, at the confluence of the Yenisei and Abakan Rivers. This is in Southern Russia closes to the Mongolian border.
