Chinese State-Owned Media Publishes Air Penetration Drill Video

Chinese State-Owned Media published this video showing off a detachment of Chengdu J-7 (NATO: FISHCAN) fighters carrying out a “live fire penetration assault drill” in the Southern Theater Command. In the video, the J-7s, distinguishable by their inlet cone and delta wing form, seems to be firing a combination of the 30mm Type 30-1 cannon and 55 mm rocket pods. The J-7 is the Chinese variant of the Russian MiG-21 and was transferred to the People’s Republic of China in 1964. Approximately 2,400 of these were built in China and hundreds are still used despite the proliferation of the J-10, J-11, J-16, and now J-20.
