Dominican Republic to increase focus on deporting Haitians.

The Dominican Republic has announced that it will be prioritizing its deportation of Haitians. Last week, the Dominican President Luis Abinader issued a decree which called for an increase in migration enforcement. This decree also announced the creation of a Dominican police unit that will be focused on foreigners.

Critics pointed out that this decree goes against a United Nations call for countries to not deport Haitian migrants back to Haiti. To support this, the UN pointed to widespread gang violence and lawlessness in Haiti.

The Dominican president responded to the UN by saying that the Dominican Republic does not have sufficient resources to aid more Haitians coming over.
