Shooting at Rwanda’s Border

Early this Saturday morning at 1:00AM local time, a soldier, most likely belonging to the FARDC (the armed forces of the DRC), crossed into Rwandan territory at the Petite Barrière border crossing, and opened fire on Rwandan guard towers. The incident occurred directly at the border crossing.

Rwanda claims that none of the soldiers were injured but that the other combatant was “shot dead.”

Because the DRC accused Rwanda of supporting one of the largest rebel groups in the country, the incident is likely to be just another drop in an already overflowing bucket of tension that exists between Rwanda and the DRC.

Rwanda has made it clear that they will not put up with any violations to their border, so it will be interesting to see what kind of response they give to this mornings shooting.
