Artsakh’s Gas Cut Off for Second Time in Two Days

The natural gas supply to Artsakh, known to some as Nagorno-Karabakh, has once again been cut off by Azerbaijan today, January 18th. It was previously cut off on the 16th before being restored after 6 hours. The gas that feeds Artsakh originates in Armenia, but travels in a pipeline that goes through territory held by Azerbaijan since the 2020 44-Day war.

This marks the third time Azerbaijan has cut off gas to Artsakh since the start of the blockade of the Lachin corridor on December 12th. The Lachin corridor is the only road that connects Armenia and Artsakh.

Ceasing Artsakh’s gas supply can get very dangerous as temperatures reach below freezing.
