ISIS Claims Attack on Burkina Faso Convoy that Resulted in Dozens of Casualties

Amaq, the semi-official media outlet of the Islamic State, has has confirmed that militants of the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) carried out a large scale ambush on a Burkina Faso military convoy in Oudalan Province earlier this week, claiming that 70 Burkinabe soldiers were killed and dozens were left wounded.

While ISIS groups tend to over inflate casualty numbers, Burkina Faso’s Ministry of National Defense has confirmed that at least 51 soldiers were killed. Militants also claimed that five soldiers were captured during the ambush as well (pictured above), along with vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and other military equipment.
