Americans Kidnapped in Mexico by Gunmen Found, Two Dead According to State Governor

Tamaulipas Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya has confirmed that two of the four Americans that were kidnapped by suspected cartel gunmen in the border city of Matamoros on Friday have been found dead, with the other two having been found alive.

Family members told CNN that Latavia “Tay” Washington McGee crossed the border for an unspecified medical procedure, where she was accompanied by three other friends identified as Shaeed Woodard, Zindell Brown and a man named “Eric.” It remains unclear at this time who was found dead.

An American official familiar with the investigation also told CNN that the group was likely mistaken to be a group of Haitian drug smugglers and attacked by cartel gunmen. Matamoros is a well known compound of the Cartel Del Gulfo, also known as the Gulf Cartel.
