Over 230 Chinese Aircraft Flew Sorties Around Taiwan During Military Exercises

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has reported that 232 PLA aircraft were detected around the island over the past three days, 134 of which entered the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).

The aircraft were also accompanied by 32 PLAN vessels in the waters around Taiwan.

The sorties, the largest seen so far, coincided with “Joint Sword” military exercises carried out by the Eastern Theatre Command that saw simulated precision strikes against targets in Taiwan and its surrounding waters.

The exercises were an apparent response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to the United States and her meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, which Beijing warned against and pledged a response to.
