In a 67-8 vote on Tuesday, May 23rd, the Slovenian Parliament voted to recognize the Holodomor, the 1932-1933 famine in Ukraine, as a genocide. Slovenia joins a steadily increasing number of countries in recognition of the event, which has grown particularly since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy took to Twitter to thank Slovenia for their recognition.
