48 Dead After Traffic Accident in Kenya

Date:

A truck lost control and rammed through a busy highway between the cities of Kericho and Nakuru causing the death of 48 people and serious injury to over 30 more. Police say they believe people may still be trapped under the wreckage.

According to eye witness Peter Otieno, he saw the truck coming and swerved to avoid them and watched the truck and trailer slam into the car behind them and eventually go over a railing hitting pedestrians and other cars along the way. Most of the fatalities involved came from the truck ramming into a bus stop filled with mini buses and wandering pedestrians.

Local media shows scenes of absolute destruction as mangled buses and cars fill the road. People who witnessed the wreck said it was nothing but blood, bodies, and destruction as it all happened so fast.

As of right now, heavy rains and foul weather are making it difficult to rescue the remaining pedestrians that are trapped but the Kenyan red cross has been deployed to assist in rescue efforts.

The minister of transportation said once the people have been rescued an investigation will begin shortly after to determine the cause of the wreck.

Kenyan President Ruto has urged motorist to exercise extreme caution in the foul weather to avoid any instances of this occurring again.
