Panama Flagged Tanker on fire in Persian Gulf

Iranian media is reporting that a Panama-Flagged tanker, carrying 40,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has caught on fire in the Persian Gulf, nearby the Iranian city of Asaluyeh. Iranian lifeguards and firefighting ships sailed towards the ship, the “White Pearl”, and were able to rescue 22 sailors.



The cause of the fire has yet to be established. Asaluyeh Ports and Maritime Affairs director Murad Pour has stated that the fire has spread from the engine room, where it originated, and is working its way around the ship. They added that Iranian firefighting ships are engaging the fire.
