The Associated Press has reported, citing a notification to Congress, that the United States is set to release five Iranian nationals and unfreeze $6 Billion in Iranian assets in exchange for the release of five detained American citizens.
This is a continuation of the prisoner swap covered in media last month, with AP noting that the unfreezing of assets “was the critical element in the prisoner release deal, which saw four of the five American detainees transferred from Iranian jails into house arrest last month. The fifth detainee had already been under house arrest.”
