The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed defense officials, has reported that roughly 2,000 American troops across the armed services are being prepared for a possible deployment to Israel, where they would serve in support and medical roles.
The deployments would not include any infantry or combat elements. The pool of selected troops includes those already stationed in the AOR, as well as Europe, according to the report.
This comes as the IDF is preparing for a likely ground assault against Hamas in Gaza as clashes intensify with Hezbollah to the north in Lebanon.
