Maine Authorities Release Bulletin on Lewiston Shooter, Outlines Previous Mental Health Issues

A bulletin released by Maine authorities reports that Lewiston mass shooting suspect Robert Card is a trained firearms instructor with previous military experience.

The bulletin also stated that Card “reported mental health issues to include hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard Base in Saco, ME,” adding he “was also reported to have been committed to mental health facility for two weeks during summer 2023 and subsequently released.”

While still unclear, this suggests mental health issues may have been a motivating factor in the shootings, which have left at least 16 dead and dozens of other wounded.

Card remains at large, but authorities have narrowed down a search area in nearby Lisbon.
