Gabon Coup Leadership Announces Election Timeline

Gabon’s military spokesman has announced the military’s plan to host elections and return to civilian rule in August of 2025. The military has ruled the country under General Brice Oligui Nguema since August 30th, when they headed a coup against President Ali Bongo, who had won an election that both the military and opposition stated was fraudulent.

After the coup, the military had announced that civilian rule and “free” democratic elections would be held after a “transition” period, though until now the length of said period was not defined.
