Ukraine Denies Russian Capture of Marinka, Donetsk

In mid-December Russian claims of the capture of the Donetsk town of Marinka began emerging, with footage of them raising flags geolocated to the Western outskirts of the town, suggesting full Russian control of the town which had been fought over for nearly 10 years.

However, Ukraine has now denied Russian control of the town, with a Ukrainian military spokesman stating that while “the city has been completely destroyed”, it is “incorrect” to say the Marinka is fully within Russian hands, and that Ukrainian military personnel are still present.

Conflicting claims of control between Russia and Ukraine have been consistently present throughout the conflict.
