DRC Opposition States They Will Not Challenge Election Following Tshisekedi Win

The most prominent opposition candidates of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) recent December 20th election have stated they will not be challenging the results of the election, despite their claims of fraud and calls for another election after significant logistical issues lead to a series of irregularities during the initial election.

The legal deadline for submitting a Presidential Petition to the DRC’s Constitutional Court is today, January 3rd.

On December 31st the nations’ Electoral Commission announced preliminary results for the election, declaring incumbent President Felix Tshisekedi as the winner, with 73% of the vote. Runner-up Moise Katumbi received 18% of the vote.
