South Korean newspaper JoongAng has reported that the evacuation order given to the island of Yeonpyeong is due to military drills being carried out by the South Korean Marine Corps.
“The Marines asked residents to move to a shelter closer due to a naval blow from the Marine Corps, not the North Korean shelling,” a Yeonpyeong office official told JoongAng.
