Ecuadorian Government Declares “Internal Armed Conflict”, at War Against Gangs

The Government of Ecuador has declared a state of “Internal Armed Conflict” as it effectively declares war against the gangs which are presently launching a wave of attacks across Ecuador.

The Presidential decree has ordered Ecuador’s military to carry out military operations against a long list of gangs, which the decree establishes Ecuador now officially recognizes as terrorist groups.

The declaration comes amidst a wider wave of violence after notorious Los Cheneros gang leader Jose “Fito” Macias escaped from a Guayaquil prison yesterday, prompting the Ecuadorian government to first declare a state of emergency and mobilize it’s military, and now wage war against the rampant gangs throughout the nation.
