U.S.- Flagged Vessels Urged to Vacate Red Sea Near Yemen for 72 Hours

United States Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) has officially advised all U.S.-flagged commercial vessels to remain North of 18N in the Red Sea or East of 46E in the Gulf of Aiden for the next 72 hours. The official announcement reads below:

“At 2330 UTC on January 10th, coalition forces conducted strikes against targets used by Houthi rebels in Yemen to launch attacks against international shipping lanes and commercial vessels. U.S. Naval Forces Central Command recommends that U.S.-flagged commercial vessels remain North of 18N in the Red Sea or East of 46E in the Gulf of Aden for the next 72 hours. Further updates will be provided when available. This alert will automatically expire on Friday, January 19, 2024.”

This warning comes as Houthi leaders signal they will retaliate against U.S.-UK forces and civilian vessels after last night’s strikes.
