As of 1820 EST, the Ecuadorian government claimed that criminal groups had killed one prison guard and retained 133 hostages. The government also claims that it secured the release of 24 persons. Most of these prisoners were taken across the various prisons in the country.
By 0200 EST this morning, the Ecuadorian government claimed that it has arrested 859 persons with 94 being charged with terrorism. These arrests were made between January 9th and 12th.
