According to United States National Security Council Spokesperson Kirby, the two U.S. Navy SEALs that went missing on January 12th, 2023 were involved in a maritime interdiction operation. The two SEALs were attempting to board a vessel laden with Iranian weapons from Yemen. However, swells as high as eight feet struck the party and washed at least one of the SEALs into the sea. Other social media talking heads postulated that the other SEAL jumped in after the first, but that has not be corroborated by U.S. officials.
He also told press that search and rescue operations are still underway and they hope to “receive updated information today.”
