Bernardo Arévalo, Guatemala’s anti-graft president, was sworn into office early Monday morning following a nearly 9-hour delay fueled by congressional political rivals.
Arévalo has previously faced several attempts to prevent his presidency, including attempts to annul the August election results and being taken off the ballot in July 2023 following claims his party had more than 5,000 illegally affiliated members before being reinstated by the Supreme Court later that month.
Supporters of Arévalo took to the streets to protest the initial delay, which you can read about here.
