Milectria, a contractor that provides electrical equipment such as cables, harnesses and other hardware to the Finnish military, has confirmed it was the victim of a cyberattack on December 26th-27th, 2023.
A former employee of the company leaked to Finnish media outlet, IS, that they received a company-wide text message concerning the leak on January 10th, 2023. After that text was made public, CEO Tomi Kaukonen, confirmed the incident. He said:
“Unfortunately, we have to confirm the event. We have made the necessary official notifications about the matter, and we will not comment on the matter publicly any further, says Tomi Kaukone, CEO OFELECTRIC GROUP.”
Milectria told its employees that personal information, such as first name, last name, address, phone number, account number or social security number, was possibly stolen. It also said it reported the incident to the national Cybersecurity Center and its parent organization, Traficom. Milectria has about 290 employees.
This incident further demonstrates the rise in cyber attacks on the Finnish government and military apparatuses since applying to and joining NATO in the last two years since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
