M23 Rebels Declare Curfew, Accuses Government of Targeting Civilians

The M23 Rebel group in the DRC has declared a curfew in its areas of control from 6:30PM to 6:00AM “until further notice” in the face of renewed combat with government forces alongside the governments new Southern African Development Community (SADC) allies. The M23 has said that “any violator of these provisions will be severely sanctioned”. The M23 controls a sizeable amount of territory in the North Kivu province, particularly around Masisi.

With the renewal of combat, the M23 has accused the government of “continually massacring the civilian population in Masisi”. They released several photos posting claimed drone strikes against civilian targets, which they said destroyed houses, stores, livestock, and a local cheese factory.
