US CENTCOM Reports Interception of Houthi Explosive Surface Drone

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that earlier today, strikes targeted and destroyed “an Iranian-backed Houthi explosive uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) in the Red Sea. U.S. forces identified the USV heading toward the international shipping lane and determined it presented an imminent threat to merchant vessels and the U.S. Navy ships in the region.”

The statement added that the strike resulted in “significant secondary explosions” and that “there were no injuries or damage reported.”

The interception is timely, as Ukrainian forces used a similar tactic to sink the Russian Molniya-class missile corvette “Ivanovets” off the coast of Crimea in an overnight surface drone swarm attack, highlighting the lethality of these systems.
