For any aviation geek in the OSINT world, tracking unique and rare aircraft is always fun to point out. As we are just hours away from the Super Bowl, a helicopter often used in the protection of high value events was seen flying grid patterns over Las Vegas.
This specific helicopter, a Bell 412 outfitted with radiation monitoring technology to detect weapons of mass destruction, is part of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST), which falls under the U.S. Department of Energy.
NEST helicopters are also used in routine patrols around major population centers.
