South Korea Unveils Drone Interception System

On February 19th, the South Korean government unveiled a drone interception system. The system is designed to engage small and medium drones up to 18 miles (30 km) away.

The interceptors are tube-launched, allowing for rapid deployment of multiple interceptors. The interceptors themselves are unmanned and are based on a trailer equipped with the modules. The interceptors utilize internal detection radar and electro-optical/infrared sensors to track their target.

These drones pack a warhead, which detonates once the drone is within “striking distance” of its target.
