Potential Spy Balloon Recovered by Fishermen off Alaska Coast, per CNN

CNN National Security Correspondent Katie Bo Lillis, citing sources familiar with the matter, has reported that “commercial fishermen off the coast of Alaska have found what officials are concerned could be another spy balloon and are bringing it to shore with them,” adding that “The FBI is meeting them there.”

So far there has not been any official statements by federal authorities or government officials.

Last year, a Chinese spy balloon floated across the continental United States, passing over several key military installations before it was eventually shot down off the coast of South Carolina by fighter jets.

While the utility and quality of intelligence that could have been obtained by the balloon has been debated, the incident highlighted the raising tensions with China and brought about criticisms in the response time to down the balloon.
