Large Explosion Rocks Oil Depot, Oryol, Russian Federation

Update (2046 EST): Governor Klychkov has made an announcement confirming a drone strike:

”Friends, a UAV crashed in Orel. A fuel and energy complex facility was attacked. Special services are working on the spot to contain the fire. There were no casualties. Please be vigilant, if necessary, immediately contact the following numbers: ?? duty service of the Federal Security Service for the Oryol region 8 (4862) 43-76-36, duty service of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Oryol region 8 (4862) 43-32-32, or to a single service number rescue – 112.”

At approximately 1958 EST, a large explosion was registered near an oil depot in Oryol, Oryol Oblast, Russian Federation.

Eyewitnesses reported that a loud blast was heard followed by a plume of black smoke near the Afanasyevskoye cemetery.

This facility was also struck by at least three Ukrainian drones on January 9th, 2024 injuring three people according to regional governor, Andrey Klychkov. He has not made a statement on this incident as of this publication.
