Large Forest Fire Breaks Out in Chile

Update 01:05 local time: The fires have been controlled by authorities. Authorities have stated the fires began when a suspect fired a flare which ignited it and spread to the city.

Massive blazes have reportedly broken out in Valparaíso, Chile, due to unknown causes.

Reports have surfaced of the wind carrying the fires to other areas as firefighters attempt to contain the flames, while the power company, Chilquinta, has stated they have cut power to the region in order to protect firefighters fighting the blazes.

While no casualties have been reported yet, they are expected to rise due to the severe nature of the fires.

The flames have already destroyed at least 10 homes, with a reported five thousand acres also being affected by the flames, while authorities have ordered the evacuation of several areas in response to the fires.
