DC Fire and EMS has confirmed that a car fire on the George Washington Parkway has been extinguished. The smoke wafted above the Lincoln Memorial and made it seem that an incident was occurring at the memorial from the Capitol vantage point. The parkway runs right up to the Lincoln Memorial.
Update on Lincoln Memorial smoke investigation. Fireboat 2 reports the apparent source was a vehicle fire on the GW Parkway in Va. that has been extinguished. #DCsBravest

Black smoke near the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall caused alarm this morning amongst DC workers. DC Fire and EMS are reportedly on scene. The Lincoln Memorial is currently undergoing renovations, it is not currently clear if this is related.
