Blinken Begins Tour of Middle East, Hopes to Secure Gaza Ceasefire

On March 20, Reuters reported that the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had begun a tour of the Middle East. His objective is to secure a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

His first stop was Saudi Arabia, where he met both Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi Crown Prince, and the Saudi foreign minister.

According to Reuters, Blinken is expected to go on to Egypt, where he will meet with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan as well as the Emirati international cooperation minister and the secretary-general of the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

This comes as Israel is posed to attack the city of Rafah, where 2.3 million Palestinians have taken shelter from the fighting in Gaza.

According to Reuters, the American government says that an Israeli ground assault into Rafah would be a “mistake”.

This is developing.
