53rd American Volunteer Killed in Ukraine

At approximately 0500 EST this morning, U.S. foreign volunteer Cedric Charles Hamm was reported killed near Chasiv Yar, Donetsk Oblast. This has been reported by pro-Ukrainian sources. On April 6th, 2024, Hamm was reported missing on the International Volunteers for Ukraine Facebook Page in the “Memorial” section. However, he has now been reported as killed.

U.S. defense publication Task and Purpose has also published a long-form piece on Hamm. According to that publication Hamm served in the U.S. Army from June 2016 to May 2023 as an 11B infantryman, attending Ranger and Air Assault school. He deployed to Afghanistan from June 2018 to March 2019. For a full description of Hamm’s biography read the Task and Purpose article here.

Hamm joins the 47 other confirmed U.S. military veterans that have been killed in Ukraine as well as the five confirmed civilian U.S. volunteers that have been killed. The last confirmed U.S. death in Ukraine was on February 7th, 2024 when James Lambert was reported. However, Joseph Ward Clark’s status in Ukraine has been hotly debated as his passport has been found in mid-April 2022, but his body has not been recovered. Clark has not been included in the above totals of American dead due to his unknown status.
