Four Rescued, At Least 10 Still Buried in Avalanche, Vent Austria

Update (1005 EST): Three Dutch nationals have been confirmed killed, four have been rescued, and one remains hospitalized. There were 17 in the Dutch tourist group.

At approximately 0530 EST this morning, an avalanche struck at Otzal Alps near Vent, Austria. Initially, at least 10 people were reported buried. However, by 0600 EST, four had been rescued and a total number of 18 victims was announced. All of these victims are reported to be part of a Dutch tour group that was near Niedertal in the direction of Martin Busch Hütte. A State of Emergency has been declared.

At least two people have been confirmed killed and another person who was rescued has been listed in critical condition as of this publication.

Search groups from Obergurgl, Sölden and Längenfeld  have been dispatched along with at least four helicopters.
