Iran, through several Arab countries, has warned the United States to not get involved in the defense of Israel or face attacks against its forces in the region, three American officials tell Axios.
The warning comes as Iran prepares retaliatory measures against Israel in response to last week’s airstrikes against an Iranian consular annex in the Syrian capital of Damascus, which left several high ranking IRGC members dead.
Iran’s response remains to be seen, but the threat of attack against American forces would likely come from Iranian proxies in the region, such as Iran-backed Shia militias in Iraq and Syria and Houthi forces in Yemen.
