One Arrested in Attack on MEP Collard, Aimargues, France

This morning, French State Services of the Gard region reported that one has been arrested after attacking Member of European Parliament (MEP) Gilbert Collard in Aimargues, France. The State Services reported that the suspect had been arrested but did not mention if MEP Collard had sustained any injuries.

Collard made this statement on his X account, indicating that his office was attacked while he was inside, not him personally.

Gilbert Georges Jean Camille René Collard is a French writer, barrister and politician serving as a MEP since 2019. He was a member of the National Rally (RN) until 2022, after serving as a member of the National Assembly for the 2nd constituency of Gard from 2012 until 2019.

This is the second major attack against the right-wing politician since 2017. On April 17th, 2017, during a Le Pen rally during the 2017 French presidential election, a terrorist threw a Molotov cocktail at Collard, inflicting minor injuries.
