Senate Shelves Impeachment Articles Against DHS Secretary Mayorkas

Voting along party lines (51-48 and 51-49), the United States Senate has voted to dismiss both impeachment articles against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Democrats argued that both articles did not reach the threshold for being considered “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

The Republic-led effort began in February, with the House also voting along party lines (214-213) to impeach Mayorkas for “willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law” and “breach of public trust” in regards to the ongoing migrant crisis at the southern border with Mexico.

Opponents of the impeachment denounced it as a political dispute with the Biden administration’s border policy.
