Update (1000 EST): A suspect has been shot by police after stabbing three elderly women.
At approximately 0850 EST, initial reports indicated that multiple people were stabbed on Jakobsbergsgatan in Vasteras, Sweden. As of this publication, no arrests have been made and a police cordon has been established. At least two victims have been hospitalized. The announcement from the Sweden Polisen reads below:
“Police are ordered to central Västerås due to several people being found injured outdoors. The people must have been injured with some kind of sharp object.
The people are taken care of by paramedics.
The police have cordoned off an area in central Västerås and are working on securing traces, interviewing witnesses and creating a picture of what has happened.
The police are looking for anyone who may have made observations in connection with the incident. A piece of information that you consider to be of no interest can be valuable to the investigation and the police are very keen to obtain all types of information about the incident, both before, during and after the incident. “
