Brother of Notorious Mexican Cartel Leader Released Post-Arrest

On April 30, the Security Minister of Mexico announced that the brother of Mexican drug lord “El Mencho”, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), was released. 

According to Reuters, the brother of El Mencho, Don Rodo, was arrested on April 21 by a coordinated operation by the Mexican National Guard and Army. 

El Mencho is the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), arguably the most powerful cartel in Mexico. 

Telemundo reported that CJNG has a serious presence in 28 of the 32 states of Mexico. 

Assets of the CJNG are said to be worth over $20 billion, according to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.
