According to UK Home Office Secretary Cleverly, the Russian Defense Attaché, the senior Russian military representative to the UK, has been expelled due to being an undeclared intelligence officer. The officer in questioned has been stripped of diplomatic immunities and will be ejected in the next 48 hours.

A defence attaché is a military expert who is attached to a diplomatic mission, often an embassy. This type of attaché post is normally filled by a high-ranking military officer, who retains a commission while serving with a diplomatic mission and is given diplomat status.
