ISIS Claims Responsibility for Afghanistan Shooting

As this publication covered on May 17th, a gunman killed six people in a bazaar in Bamyan, Afghanistan and injured several others.

The gunman has been identified as a rogue police officer but has reportedly not been detained as of this publication. The Spanish Foreign Minister confirmed three Spaniards were killed and one was injured along with three Afghan civilians who were killed.

The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed one Australian citizen was injured and the Norwegian and Lithuanian government also claimed a number of their citizens were injured.

Moment ago, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack via its portal on the I’lam Foundation. The group claimed to have targeted Shia worshippers in the attack. There has been no official statement from the Afghan Interim Government. The last ISIS attack in Afghanistan came on April 30th, 2024 when a gunman open fired on a mosque in Herat.
