Iranian Presidential Election Scheduled

According to Iranian state-owned media, national elections for the office of the now-vacant presidency will be held on June 28th, 2024.

Candidate registration will be held from May 30th to June 3rd with a campaign period from June 12th to June 27th.

The president of Iran is usually elected every four years by a “direct vote of the people”, according to Article 114 of the Iranian Constitution, which means that a presidential election should have occurred on June 18th, 2025. Article 131 calls for an emergency government to manage the executive for, at most, 50 days. So, this new date will satisfy the constitutional demand.
