Ukraine Claims to have Destroyed Karakurt-Class Corvette “Tsiklon”

On May 18th, 2024, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a large drone strike on several targets in the Russian Federation, especially in Crimea. By the morning of May 19th, 2024, several Russian military bloggers claimed that three Ukrainian ATACMS missiles struck a berth “where one of the ships was located” at Sevastopol Bay in Crimea. They also claimed that six Russian sailors had been killed and 11 were injured.

This claim went largely unrecognized by the Ukrainian side until this morning when the Ukrainian General Staff announced that it had struck the Russian Navy Karakurt-Class Corvette Tsiklon  during that same attack.

However, it was not until approximately 1100 EST today when the Ukrainian Navy published claims that it had destroyed the Tsiklon. That announcement reads below:

“On the night of May 19, 2024, the Defense Forces of Ukraine hit the Russian missile ship “Zyklon” of project 22800 in Sevastopol.”

The Karakurt class, is a class of Russian corvettes which have been entering service with the Russian Navy since 2018. Tsiklon commissioned only in July 2023 and was only one of five active ships of the class.
