Belarus Suspends Participation in Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces

President Alexander Lukashenko has officially signed a bill to suspend Belarus’ participation in the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.

The treaty was signed in 1990 by members of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, which aimed to reduce and limit conventional military equipment in Europe to prevent military escalation and conflict.

Russia withdrew from the treaty in November 2023, prompting the United States and other NATO allies to suspend their participation.
