Danish Prime Minister Assaulted, Copenhagen

Update (1523 EST): According to local media the PM had recently been campaigning with the Social Democrats’ EU lead candidate, Christel Schaldemose, ahead of the EU parliamentary elections on Sunday. However, the attack occurred on Kultorvet Market and was not near a campaign site.

Update (1521 EST): A single male suspect has been taken into custody and the Prime Minister is reportedly not seriously injured.

At approximately 1505 EST, initial reports indicated that Danish Prime Minister Frederiksen was assaulted on the street in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mette Frederiksen is a Danish politician who has served as prime minister of Denmark since June 2019, and leader of the Social Democrats since June 2015.
