U.S. Begins Niger Withdrawal

According to United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) , U.S. forces initiated withdrawal from Airbase 101 yesterday. The announcement reads below:

”The U.S. Department of Defense and the Nigerien Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Niger announce that the withdrawal of U.S. forces and assets from Niger has progressed from initial preparations to redeployment. This significant transition began with the departure of a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from Air Base 101 in Niamey on June 7, 2024.”

U.S. forces are set to completely withdraw from Niger by September 15th, 2024, from both Airbases 101 and 201. Russian troops have already deployed to Niger and will probably occupy the bases left behind by the Americans.
