A military aircraft carrying Malawi Vice President Saulos Chilima, alongside nine other people, has reportedly gone missing.
The aircraft left Malawi’s capital, Lilongwe, but did not make it to its destination at the Mzuzu International Airport just 370km to the north. According to a statement from President Lazarus Chakwera’s office, Malawian authorities lost contact with the plane after it “went off radar.”
The President has ordered a search and rescue operation to find the plane, and cancelled his official trip to the Bahamas while the Vice President remains missing.
