YONHAP: South Korea Fires Warning Shots After Brief North Korean Incursion

South Korean media outlet Yonhap has reported that South Korean forces fired warning shots after North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the Military Demarcation Line on Sunday, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

“It is estimated that the North Korean military, which was working with tools such as picks, got lost and crossed the military demarcation line,” a JCS official was quoted as saying.

The soldiers were said to have returned over the border after the warning shots were fired. No other activity was reported.

The incident comes amid increased tensions in recent days after several waves of trash and feces filled balloons were sent over the border into South Korea from the North. South Korea has responded by resuming loudspeaker broadcasts at the border.
