FDNY Battles Large Roof Fire, Broome Street, Lower Manhattan

Update (0741 EST): This fire has been upgraded to a third alarm, only one hour after a third alarm was also declared in the Bronx.

At approximately 0646 EST, initial reports indicated that a large fire had engulfed a five-story apartment building on the 460 Block of Broome Street in Lower Manhattan, New York.

A two-alarm fire had been declared by 0700 EST as smoke and flames could be seen emanating from the roof and upper stories.

As of this publication it is not clear if there have been any casualties, and the fire is not under control.

Ladder 8 in Soho would be the first due to this neighborhood, followed by Engine 7 and Tower Ladder 1 near Church Street and Broadway.
